09/03/08: P-Con The Panels Schedules will be published shortly. Of course it must be kept in mind that panels may be changed or dropped at any stage, due to unforeseen circumstances. Some of the items on the schedule (such as the book launches, auction, guest of honour interview etc) don't need much explanation. However the other panels do, and this is a list of the proposed panels with a short description of each item.

08/03/08 The panels are being checked and cross checked and we should be able to post these during the coming week. Chapters bookshop on Parnell Street, Dublin 1, have organised a signing event on the 28th with three of the P-Con guests authors, C.E. Murphy, the convention’s Guest of Honour; Juliet E McKenna; and Oisín McGann. The signing will take place from 6.30pm to 7.30pm, after which all parties involved will be going over to the Central Hotel for the official launch of P-CON at 8.00pm. After the book launch from Brian J Showers, the Moonlight Theatre Company will present two tales from Edgar Allan Poe, 'The Cask Of Amontillado' performed by Vincent Fegan and 'The Black Cat' performed by Paul Kealyn, directed by Gary Egan. And just to keep you going, we'll have bottles of Lucozade Alert - as they say, there'll be one for everyone in the audience.

28/02/08 On the Friday night there will be a performance of selected readings from Edgar Allan Poe, specifically "The Black Cat" and "The Cask Of Amontillado", which sit nicely with the preceding launch of Brian J Showers book "The Bleeding Horse and Other Ghost Stories", and I'm sure we can persuade Brian to do a reading as well. On the Saturday night, following C.E. Murphy launch of "House Of Cards" (which by co-incidence is a casino) there will be a casino, with Roulette, Blackjack, Poker and various other games. Now if you have friends, family, etc who may be interested in one or other of these, but not interested in attending the convention in general, they can come along and pay the nominal fee of €5 for each event. Of course for those attending the convention admission to these is already covered. Another addition to the weekend is a Writing Workshop with the talented Juliet E McKenna. While there is no extra cost for this workshop, this is for convention members only. As numbers are limited for this, and on a first come basis, please let me know if you wish to attend this.

24/02/08 Updated membership forms and posters available here.

19/02/08 Code of Conduct sent in the newsletter

13/02/08 The member list for P-Con (incl the guests) has just reached the 100 mark - with a significant number still to come. Still room for more people!

29/01/08 The Auction listing has been updated

20/01/08 Due to other commitments Eugene Byrne will not be able to attend, hopefully we will see him at P-Con VI. I'm pleased to announce that Derek Gunn and Peadar Ó Guilín will be joining the convention as guests.

06/01/08 Due to other commitments Conor Kostick and Kim Newman will not be able to attend, hopefully we will see them at P-Con VI

16/11/07 Book launches for P-Con. There will be three books launched.

  • Brian J. Showers is launching The Bleeding Horse And Other Ghost Stories.
  • Steve Westcott will be launching Cronan the Librarian, and is the second book of the Black Dragon Trilogy
  • C.E. Murphy will be launching House Of Cards, second in the Negotiator Trilogy.

09/11/07 On Monday November 12th, John Vaughan's (guest at several Octocons, P-Con 2008, MeCon 2008) short movie Valour is scheduled to shown on RTE2 at 23:55. I've seen this and highly recommend it.

10/10/07 Octocon is going to offer 5 Euro off a Octocon 2008 membership purchased this weekend to anyone that can show us a P-Con and Mecon 2007 badge. We'll also give them the deal if they buy an attending membership to both cons this weekend. Plus the lads have committed to doing the same deal next year at least, so people attending both can do the same thing for Octocon 2009 if they hit both Mecon and P-Con in 2008.

28/09/07 SubCon is being held in the Central Hotel on September 29th. I understand that I understand that Leah Moore and John Reppion - both popular guests at P-Con V - will be there as well. And I hope to stick my head in the door as well.

25/09/07 NISFA is the New Irish Science Fiction Association. It is a fan based group meeting once a month with a guest speaker. It also gives a chance to meet friends old and new, keep in touch with the various activities in the genre, discuss trends good or bad, and generally have a good time. The meeting are held the first Tuesday of each month in the White Horse Inn on Burgh Quay, Dublin 2 under the guiding eyes and hands of Caitriona Hamman, aided and abetted by Frank Darcy, with technical support from James Shields.

15/08/07 John Vaughan agreed to be a guest at P-Con V.

11/08/07 C. E. Murphy is the guest of honour at Pi-Con in the USA
Paul Cornell is going to be the new writer on the ongoing series Excalibur. For those of you who don't follow comics, this is the monthly adventures of (basically) the British branch of the X-Men.
Chris Dolley's second novel, Shift, has just been published by Baen.

17/06/07 Paul Cornell says that since P-Con V is just a few after Swancon in Aussie, he is not going to be feeling up for another event, even if he was back in the country by then. So, his apologies, but he'll have to decline this time, and hopes we'll have him back the year after. Which of course we'll be delighted to arrange.

12/06/07 Frank Ludlow agreed to be a guest at P-Con V.

10/06/07 Eugene Byrne agreed to be a guest at P-Con V.

05/06/07 Diane Duane and Peter Morwood agreed to be guests at P-Con V.

04/06/07 Juliet E McKenna agreed to be a guest at P-Con V.

01/06/07 is the birthday of our Guest of Honour Catie Murphy

31/05/07 Colin Harvey and Kim Newman agreed to be guests at P-Con V.

30/05/07 George Green agreed to be a guest at P-Con V.

29/05/07 Leah Moore, John Reppion, Chris Dolley and Inge Heyer agreed to be guests at P-Con V.

28/05/07 Oisín McGann, John W Sexton, Conor Kostick, Brian J Showers, Bob Neilson, Charlie Stross, Dread Lord Fluff the Plush Cthulhu, Dave Murphy, Raven Dane, John Kenny and Michael Carroll have all agreed to be guests at P-Con V.

25/05/07 Catie Murphy confirmed that she will be the Guest of Honour at P-Con V.

24/05/07 The dates for P-Con V are confirmed as March 29th / 30th 2008 (which is the weekend after Easter). The venue will be the The Central Hotel, Exchequer Street, Dublin 2, with Guest Of Honour Catie Murphy. The Covention Charity will be the Christina Noble Children's Foundation

23/05/07 News item from Paul Cornell.
Hi, you lot. You're the first people I've got in touch with to spread the word about a campaign I'm running on behalf of someone I'm trying to get nominated for the World Fantasy Awards. Her name's Deanna Hoak, and you can read my pitch here. I'd really appreciate it if you could see your way clear to circulating the above address to as many online SF and Fantasy news pages as possible (a couple of you, obviously, I've chosen because you own such sites). I'm aiming, of course, to get the attention of those with memberships to the World Fantasy Convention. If anyone can offer me any advice as to how best to find that audience, or about other people I should bring in on this, I'd much appreciate that too. Cheers.
Check out my blog.

19/05/07 News item from John W Sexton
Things have been really good here the past few weeks. I've been invited to the states for next April, all expenses paid, for a poetry reading at a major literary conference over there, and I'm also the winner of this year's Listowel Poetry Prize in the single poem category (the presentation is in a fortnight's time). I'm pretty busy at the moment with workshops and school residencies and stuff like that (spent this entire week in Longford giving workshops for the Pushkin Trust) so times are looking good at long last.

10/03/07 P-Con IV came to a successful conclusion. As a result, it was decided that P-Con V will take place in Spring of 2008
