Convention DetailsWhat Is P-ConP-CON is a literary SF convention, which means that it is a convention dedicated more to the written end of the SF spectrum, rather than to the TV or movie side of the genre, although this is not to say that it won't be dealing with these also, to some extent. "SF" is used in this instance as a sort of shorthand for Speculative Fiction, rather than simply science fiction, as the broader terms allows us to cover all aspects of those three interrelated genres, Science Fiction, Fantasy Fiction, and Horror. from the original P-Con introduction, written by the person who started this convention: Pádraig Ó Méalóid P-Con is now in its fifth year. Guest Of Honour for 2008 is C.E. Murphy. Joining her as guests are: Eugene Bryne, Michael Carroll, Raven Dane, Chris Dolley, Diane Duane, George Green, Colin Harvey, Inge Heyer, John Kenny, Conor Kostick, Frank Ludlow, Oisín McGann, Juliet E McKenna, Leah Moore, Peter Morwood, Dave Murphy, Kim Newman, Bob Nielson, John Reppion, John W Sexton, Brian J Showers, Charlie Stross and John Vaughan. The venue for the 2008 convention is the Central Hotel, on Exchequer Street in the heart of Dublin, a city renowned for its literary giants. The event is a great opportunity to meet and mingle with some of today's greatest authors, as well as the up and coming greats. The Phoenix Convention is a mixture of discussion, chat, serious debate and not forgetting the fun & craic. Topics covered in prior years covered subjects as diverse as Dr. Who, colonisation of space, publishing, writing for young people and the meaning of Squee. So register now to become a member of P-Con V and we'll see you there in March 2008. Previous EventsP-Con IVWe were delighted that Kim Newman was the Guest of Honour at the fourth Phoenix Convention, which was being held over the weekend of the 10th and 11th of March 2007 in Wynn's Hotel, Dublin. He was a tough act to follow, and there was nerves on both sides; he was worried about his baby, and this was the first time the buck stopped with me. But it all went well. It also marked a change in venue from the Aisling Hotel to Wynn's Hotel, as the Aisling was not available for that weekend.
